Reflection On Conscience

Conscience is the feeling someone gets when they're in a tough situation that distinctively determines right from wrong. I agree with this. I think deep down everyone knows what they should and should not do. Everyone has feelings and have some concern, in one shape or another, about anyone else's feelings.

One situation where Huck's conscience gets the best of him is when he continues to help Jim runaway. Knowing that it is illegal and extremely to help slaves runaway, Huck helps Jim because understands that he is a real person and that its morally right. Another time is when he attempts to tell the duke and king that their victims are onto them and warn them to escape. Even though they are conmen, Huck can't sit back and allow them to be punished and suffer. I agree with these decisions.

I remember a time in my life when I was phased with a moral dilemma and my conscience got the best of me. I was very young. My mother took a couple of my friends and myself to the candy store. One of my friends picked up a treat and hid it in her pocket. I was confused because I was taught that stealing was wrong and unnecessary. My friend tried to get me to steal with her but I refused because I knew it was wrong. I've always made good moral decisions. I don't even litter!

Setting Description

My favorite place to go and relax is a place of my own. It's everywhere I am. I can be in any setting, all I have to do is focus on me and I'm at peace. I have been going "here" ever since I can remember. Here, I calm myself. Anything that was bothering me before has disappeared and no longer exists at that moment. I go to this place whenever I feel stressed and need time to gather myself. This place is extremely mellow. Its an ocean shore with a misty breeze keeping you cool. It's a forest where all you hear is Babe quietly creeping through the trees. I am alone and content. All I need is me when I'm here. Its my refuge when I am down. This place means everything to me because it is me.

Post 1: Huck Finn Response (Ch. 1- Ch. 12)

So far in the book Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck explains how he was living with he widow and how picky she was with his clothes, schoolwork, and religion. Huck eventually gives all of his money over to Judge Thatcher because he has a feeling his father is going to return. There has been word that his father drowned, but Huck knows that this is not true because the body was not floating like a male body would float. This is later confirmed when he sees foot prints outside of his window in the snow and his father pops up in his room one night. After being locked up in a room by his father for 3 days, Huck decides to fake his own death and escape using an old wood saw. After hearing of his death, Jim, the widows nigger, decided to escape as well. The two ended up meeting each other on the other side of the river. Huck dressed himself as a girl and went back to town to hear some news. There, a woman who talked too much told him that a couple guys were coming to find Jim so they could get the cash reward. Huck quickly went back to Jim and warned him. The set out on a raft and ran into several murderers...

Compared to Of Mice and Men, this book is quite similar. The use of various dialects is used in both books and I happen to like that. It makes the reader really have to pay attention to the story to understand it. There isn't too much I don't like about the book.
